Leading Innovation in the U.S. Watermelon Market

The U.S. watermelon industry is a fast-paced and highly competitive landscape, driven by continuous innovation and collaboration. In this article, Product Manager Javier Angulo reflects on his first season leading Hazera’s cucurbit portfolio in the United States, sharing insights into the company’s progress, the momentum behind its expanding watermelon lineup, and its vision for the seasons ahead.

“My name is Javier Angulo, Product manager for cucurbit and I’ve had the privilege of serving in my current role for one full season in the U.S. watermelon market. This experience has been nothing short of transformative, giving me a deep appreciation for the complexity and dynamism of this crop.
After my first season, I can confidently say that watermelon is a highly competitive and evolving category where continuous innovation is essential to staying ahead. From South Florida to the Pacific Northwest, our mission has been clear: identify and deliver new varieties that maximize profitability for growers while ensuring the highest quality for consumers.”

Commitment and Progress
“Throughout this journey, I’ve witnessed the strong commitment and hard work of the Hazera USA team. Thanks to their dedication, we now offer a solid lineup of mini watermelons adapted to different regions, positioning Hazera as both a reliable and innovative partner in the market.
But we’re not stopping there. We are making significant strides in developing large seedless watermelons, with special attention to the performance of Scooter on the East Coast. Additionally, we’re excited about new varieties that growers will have the chance to evaluate during the 2026 harvest season, a clear sign of our ongoing investment in the future.”

Looking Ahead
“The U.S. watermelon market is fast-moving, and innovation is the key to success. As we continue to expand our portfolio and strengthen partnerships, I’m confident that Hazera will remain at the forefront of delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of growers and delight consumers nationwide.”
